Aluminium Extrusion Details

The aluminium extrusion used by Tech Edge in various products (2B0, etc.) is detailed below. Tech Edge owns this extrusion and it is not available from other outlets. It may be available for purchase from time to time however we would normally only sell :

  • Lengths no shorter than 1 m (@ AU$75.00/m), but see *below.
  • In raw form, ie. NOT anodized.

From time to time we also have anodized production cases with small blemishes that we would not normally sell as a complete unit. These are available for AU$12/each plus shipping. They may be as short as 92 mm and as long as 96 mm, but will normally be close to 95 mm (and only available anodized in this size). We may have some in bright Tech Edge green but most will be in the lime colour shown here. Blemishes may include "lumpy" anodizing, small scratches and slightly bent "wings", but most people will find they are quite serviceable and attractive. Some of these cases may also have pre-tapped M4 holes for end plates.

Dimensions are shown at left. Click on the image to get an enlarged popup view or go here for a linked image. For reference, approximate measurements are :

  • Outside height from base to top =28 mm. Decorative flute add about 1.5 mm
  • Inside height =24 mm
  • Wall thickness ~2.0 mm
  • Outside width = 117 mm.
  • Inside max width of PCB = 105 mm (tight fit).
  • Inside minimum width of PCB = 103.5 mm (very loose fit).
  • Base of case to base of PCB = 5.5 mm
  • Approx clearance above PCB ~17 mm
  • Shadowing of PCB by side rails = 2.0 mm
  • End plate holes designed for M4 bolts (we use M4x10).
  • Width between flute areas, for a label, is 20 mm.
  • Approx 35 mm from flute area to sides.

If you're interested then contact Tech Edge with your requirements. Remember that this is not a standard product so we cannot guarantee continued supply and we have only limited quantities of production cases with blemishes.

Further Notes

* Note : We would only consider cutting raw lengths (to facilitate shipping) for orders of 50 or more pre-cut lengths of the same size.

The extrusion has an approximate weight of 1.56 kg/m (ie. 1 metre weights 1.56 kg).

Tech Edge calculates shipping charges at cost price and does not add any excess packaging fee. A range of shipping options are available and we normally ship by air mail (which does NOT have a tracking system) where you can expect to pay around AU$30/kg (cheaper for more) for many overseas destinations. Slightly lower cost options are available (normal post is perhaps half the cost but much slower). More expensive but faster is a courier like FedEx who can usually ship almost anywhere within ~4 days. For up to 10 kg FedEx charge AU$180 to AU$220 for various destinations (around AU$20/kg), but this is a "flat rate" cost and will be considerably more expensive for small weights. FedEx have a more economical 25 kg "flat rate", but this is best only when the weight is over ~18 kg, and less than ~27 kg. See FedEx.com for more info (NO, we do NOT endorse their service, but have used them many times before). We are reluctant to use your own courier's account because of the possibility of a "chargeback" should you decide not to pay your courier's bill.
